The grid
Nuke in Rosewood: How a Substation Explodes
Half the county saw the sky go orange and thought the power was coming back. It was going the other way.
KNOX COUNTY. You know the feeling. Night, nothing on the radio, and then the whole southern sky goes orange. Somebody in chat called it a nuke. Somebody else figured the grid was coming back and got their hopes up. Sweet. Wrong.
That glow was Rosewood South eating itself. Two worn-out generators, one bad hour, and the substation keeping the safest town in the county lit went up like a braai somebody fed a jerry can. In Rosewood, the fridges went quiet.
Wrong way round
Here's what nobody prints on the box: generators don't fade, they go out loud. Wear one down past twenty percent and every hour it's choosing between running, burning and blowing up. Rosewood's picked two out of three.
Right way round
The lights were back before dawn because one man in black ops gear and a summer hat went round the county collecting stray generators, a bite on his neck and all, and parked them in a yard that was still on fire. It still is. Then he got on the chat and told the rest of us to go check ours.
I would urge you guys to go check on the current running genies. Take supplies to repair condition. They are all probs close to exploding.
The summer hat, in global chat
Next time the sky goes orange, don't cheer. Grab a wrench.
